Digital Temperature Controllers
|

|
|
Temperature is one of the most important factors for all grain brewing. A few degrees one way or the other will vary the outcome of your beer.
To ensure an accurate and consistent temperature, digital controllers can be utilized.
Brewmation offers LOVE controllers with specialized temperature probes. These controllers will display and / or control the temperature of your HLT, Mash Tun, Kettle, etc. The controller can be connected quite easily using the screw terminals on the back of the unit. The LOVE controller can be mounted in an enclosure using the included bezel mount.
A relay output is used to control the process. The relays are rated for up to 15 amp loads. Connect directly to heaters, a pump, or an external relay to drive higher current devices (see chart below showing heater wattage and amp ratings)
The specialized probes that Brewmation offers includes standard, and versions to be mounted in a high temperature environment (near propane burners). The probes use a copper sheath and a special heat transfer epoxy to ensure a steady and representative temperature readings.
Pictured left is the high temperature version that incorporates high temp wires and a ceramic protective sheath to withstand temperatures up to 1100 degrees F. High temperatures are common when the probes are mounted on the side of a tank that is heated by a propane gas heater.
The standard versions have a simple jacketed cable (pictured left with the green background). Standard cable lengths are 9'. Longer cables are available (please contact us for a quote).
For mounting the probes, we have several options. We offer a 1/2" NPT connection for vessels that have welded connectors. As you can see, the probe pictured on the left threads into the vessel from the outside of the tank. We also offer the same NPT connection for vessels that have connectors that require threading the probe from the inside.
The other option for mounting is by using a fitting that does not require welding. The connector on the left uses a 1/4"NPT threaded nut with a rubber seal. These work well on stainless tanks, mash coolers, etc.

To compute the amount of amps a heating element will draw, use the following formula:
Amps = Wattage / Voltage
Example:
3000 watt element running on 240 VAC
Amps = 3000 / 240 Amps = 12.5 amps. *
Always check with a qualified electrician for local code requirements. GFCI circuits are highly recommended and may be required for your area.
